Responsibility for precious metals and stones has been strengthened

Administrative and criminal liability has been established in Uzbekistan for the illegal acquisition or transportation of precious metals and gemstones. Zamin.uz reported this.
These updates were formalized by a relevant legislative act adopted on April 21, 2026, introducing amendments to several existing legal documents. According to the new regulations, significant additions have been made to the Criminal Code.
Henceforth, individuals who illegally acquire or sell precious metals or stones may be held criminally liable. Such punitive measures will specifically apply to persons who have previously received administrative penalties for these actions.
Additionally, for the purpose of providing clarity in legislation, legal definitions of precious metals and stones have been officially incorporated into the relevant section of the Criminal Code. The Code of Administrative Responsibility has established specific penalties for such violations.
If illegal activities are detected, the seized items will be confiscated, and the guilty party may be sentenced to administrative detention for up to 15 days. For individuals against whom detention cannot be applied, material penalties will be imposed.
In such cases, a fine ranging from 10 to 20 times the basic calculating amount will be levied. This law entered into force from the date of its official publication and is mandatory for all citizens and entrepreneurs.
