President ordered to reduce construction customs payments

A meeting on urgent issues in construction and urban development was held under the chairmanship of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Zamin.uz reported this.
At the meeting, construction industry representatives openly spoke about the problems with customs payments and utilization fees paid when importing special equipment not produced in the country. According to the Spot.uz website, these payments are causing construction costs to rise.
According to Vohidjon Mirzayev, head of Lux City Houses, reducing these mandatory payments applied to construction machinery not produced in Uzbekistan would greatly help small and medium-sized businesses. This would lower construction costs and, as a result, reduce housing prices.
The head of state paid special attention to this issue. It was emphasized that it is necessary to increase the volume of construction and create conditions to further boost interest in this sector.
The President instructed to prepare a project to reduce import duties on construction equipment not produced in Uzbekistan, especially those with expensive technology, and to fully exempt them at the initial stage. As Construction and Housing and Communal Services Minister Sherzod Hidoyatov said, similar benefits were introduced in 2017 for importing special construction equipment.
These measures had a positive impact on the sector at that time and accelerated the construction process. A similar approach is now being reintroduced.
