A new wind power station with a total capacity of 20 megawatts will be built in the Burchmula region of the Bo‘stonliq district of Tashkent region. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The press service of the Tashkent regional administration announced this. The project cost is estimated at 28 million US dollars, and the construction work is planned to be carried out with grant funds.
On July 1, 2024, the regional governor Zoir Mirzayev signed a decision to allocate 10 hectares of land for this facility. The new wind power station will be capable of producing approximately 129.6 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.
This amount of energy is sufficient to fully supply a small town or a large village with electricity. Additionally, the operation of the station will save about 811,100 cubic meters of natural gas or 3,150 tons of coal annually.
This will not only increase economic efficiency but also contribute to ecological sustainability. According to the Ministry of Energy, in May 2024, a record 1.1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity was produced in Uzbekistan from solar and wind power stations.
This figure, which accounted for 17 percent of the total production volume, includes 712 million kilowatt-hours from solar and 392.1 million kilowatt-hours from wind stations. Throughout the year, a total of 4.86 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity was generated from renewable energy sources.
This number clearly indicates the development of this sector in the country. Currently, there are 11 solar photovoltaic stations and 3 wind power stations operating in 10 regions of Uzbekistan.
Their total capacity is 4,067 megawatts. The location of the new 20-megawatt wind station in Burchmula is related to the region's windy and mountainous climate conditions, creating favorable opportunities for wind energy.
This will help strengthen the country's energy security. Furthermore, the construction of the station will create additional jobs for the local population, assist in the development of infrastructure, and improve the living standards in the region.
Overall, the project has not only energy significance but also social and economic importance. Renewable energy sources are the foundation of Uzbekistan's future energy, and the government is implementing consistent measures to develop this sector, ensure stability in energy supply, and protect the environment.
Additionally, projects being implemented in cooperation with international organizations and donors are aimed at increasing the country's investment attractiveness. This significantly contributes to Uzbekistan's economic and ecological development.
