The mobile communication operator of Uzbekistan, Mobiuz, is planned to be sold for 300 million dollars. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Kursiv.media reported this based on Bloomberg sources. The government aims to attract investors from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, and Europe.
Mobiuz is the fourth largest mobile communication operator in the country. According to data from the BMI analysis company, its market share is expected to reach 20.9 percent by the end of 2024.
The total number of subscribers in the Uzbekistan market has reached 35.6 million. This year, Mobiuz's revenue amounted to 164 million dollars, and its EBITDA figure was 41 million dollars.
The company's 100 percent share is being sold as part of a comprehensive privatization program initiated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Uzbekistan aims to attract at least 10 trillion soums, or 786 million dollars, by privatizing the assets of 29 large enterprises.
This is part of a strategy to reduce the state's share in the economy and increase foreign investments. The tender for the sale of Mobiuz was announced in June 2025.
Interested investors must submit letters of interest by August 1. Rothschild & Co has been engaged as an advisor for the transaction.
VEON has stated that it is regularly reviewing opportunities to expand its business in Uzbekistan, but has not officially confirmed its participation in this tender.
