Cyberattacks in Britain are causing many companies to halt operations, resulting in thousands of people becoming unemployed. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
One of these is KNP Logistics, located in Northamptonshire and with a 158-year history. Due to the cyberattack, the company was unable to continue its operations, leaving 700 employees without jobs.
According to experts, the attack was carried out by a hacker group called "Akira." They managed to access the internal system by using a simple and easily guessable password of one of the company employees.
Then all data was encrypted, and internal programs ceased to function. The hackers demanded a large ransom for data recovery.
In their messages, the hackers suggested starting constructive dialogue. However, KNP did not have the necessary funds for the ransom.
As a result, the data was not recovered, and the company was declared bankrupt. This led to 700 workers becoming unemployed.
In the last year, nearly 19,000 cyberattacks have been recorded in Great Britain. Typically, hackers demand an average ransom of 4-5 million pounds sterling.
Research shows that one-third of British companies have been forced to pay a ransom after a cyberattack. In February, a similar attack occurred on the cryptocurrency exchange Bybit.
The hackers took control of a digital wallet holding Ethereum cryptocurrency and stole funds amounting to 1.5 billion dollars. These incidents highlight significant issues in cybersecurity and urge companies to strengthen precautionary measures.
