Last month, eight people died as a result of a boat capsizing on the famous Lake Tahoe located in California, USA. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) confirmed that none of the victims were wearing life jackets. The incident occurred on June 21 during a strong and unexpected storm.
At the time of the incident, a 28-foot long golden Chris-Craft boat capsized under 10-foot high waves. There were a total of ten people on board, of whom eight lost their lives.
Among the deceased were four members of a family celebrating a birthday. According to the NTSB report, the group had left the shore around noon when the weather was calm.
However, within two hours, the wind picked up and waves began to form. Around 2:30 PM, as the boat was returning, hail started to fall, and the boat was hit by strong waves on its side.
Water entered the boat, and some passengers attempted to bail it out. However, a large wave completely capsized the boat.
After the boat capsized, only two people survived. One was wearing a life jacket, while the other clung to him to stay alive.
None of the deceased were wearing life jackets. Tourists on the shore witnessed the incident and immediately reported it to the police.
No emergency signal was sent from the boat itself. Accidents on Lake Tahoe are rare, but the danger is always present.
According to South Tahoe Police Lieutenant Scott Crivelli, while there are drownings and other unfortunate incidents in the lake every year, such tragedies involving many victims are rare. Typically, an average of six people die in the lake each summer.
This incident highlights the need to further enhance water safety precautions.
