The special representative of the US president, Steve Witkoff, reported that the US decided to withdraw from the negotiations aimed at stopping the fire in the Gaza Strip ahead of schedule. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Additionally, the US recalled its delegation from Qatar for consultations. According to Witkoff, despite all the efforts of the mediators, HAMAS refused to act together and did not show goodwill to ensure peace.
He stated that in the current situation, the US is responding to every action of HAMAS and is looking for new opportunities to bring home the Israeli hostages and create a stable and peaceful environment for the people of Gaza. Witkoff emphasized that the main goal of the US is to end the conflict and establish lasting peace in the Gaza Strip.
According to the Associated Press, the Trump administration did not achieve significant results in negotiations over several months. Initially, negotiations aimed at a 60-day ceasefire involved HAMAS proposing to release 10 Israeli hostages, while Israel offered to hand over the bodies of 18 Palestinians in return.
At the same time, issues of increasing humanitarian aid and a long-term ceasefire were also discussed. The reason for the halt in negotiations is related to both sides firmly insisting on their demands.
HAMAS is demanding the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip. Israel, on the other hand, is asking HAMAS to relinquish power and disarm.
Due to these differences, the negotiations ended without results
