Artificial intelligence in Africa recovers lost political documents

The Republic of South Africa withdrew a national policy document created with the help of artificial intelligence due to incorrect scientific sources. One.uz reports this.
In the document, at least six of the 67 sources included were fabricated by artificial intelligence, citing articles that do not actually exist. This situation put the government in an awkward position and damaged the credibility of the policy draft.
Problems with the policy draft Communications Minister Solli Malatsi described this error not as a simple technical glitch, but as a serious failure. According to the Minister, links generated by artificial intelligence were included in the document without verification.
This incident once again proved how necessary human oversight is when using artificial intelligence. The government had planned to rank among the leading countries in the field of AI, but this incident damaged that confidence.
Identification of fake sources News24 reported that the document contained fabricated articles under the names of real journals such as the South African Journal of Philosophy, AI & Society and Journal of Ethics and Social Philosophy. This is a result of the "hallucination" characteristic of artificial intelligence, which can generate information that appears reliable but is incorrect.
The document is currently being revised, and measures are expected to be taken against the responsible persons.
