Zelensky: The Ukrainian Armed Forces have completed their main task in the Kursk region

The Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) have completed their main task in the Kursk region — diverting the strength of Russian troops from other fronts. This was announced by Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Ukrainian president acknowledged that the situation in the Kursk region is "very complex." According to Zelensky, the UAF's position in this area was to distract Russian troops from Pokrovsk, Kharkiv, and Sumy directions.
"Our guys who took on the strong blow are true heroes. The pressure first decreased in the Kharkiv direction. They [Russia] maximally moved their troops towards Kurshina. Then they also began to withdraw troops from the eastern direction, but did not abandon their main goal – Pokrovsk. We understood all of this. Only determined people who understood the situation realized that at some moment the Russians would stop in the Pokrovsk direction. That’s exactly what happened," Zelensky said.
According to the Ukrainian president, the situation in the Pokrovsk and Kharkiv directions is currently "stabilized."
"I believe that they [the UAF's operation in the Kursk region] have completed their task. The situation in the Pokrovsk direction is currently stable, and it will not be easy to find another opportunity to attack," Zelensky said.
The UAF began its operation in the Kursk region in August 2024, capturing several settlements in the area. Since early March, Russian troops have taken control of more than 20 settlements. At the same time, the Russian government claims that Ukrainian soldiers in the Kursk region are surrounded. This was also stated by US President Donald Trump. The UAF General Staff stated that these reports do not correspond to reality.
In turn, Russia said that at Trump's request, it is ready to save the lives of Ukrainian soldiers in the Kursk region, but Kyiv must order them to surrender.
