Volodymyr Zelensky appointed a new head of the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff. This position was taken by Major General Andrey Gnatov.
Gnatov was appointed as the Deputy Head of the General Staff at the end of February; prior to that, he had served for eight months as the commander of the Joint Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“In his new position, Gnatov is tasked with improving the efficiency of the management system of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in particular, reorganizing and enhancing the processes of the corps structure, making and implementing decisions of the Supreme Commander with due diligence, as well as applying combat experience in planning and managing troops,” the report states.
Lieutenant General Anatoliy Bargilevich, who has been serving as the head of the General Staff, has been appointed as the Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. “He will be responsible for overseeing the reform processes being implemented in the army, as well as checking the compliance with legislation and the implementation of decisions within the Ministry of Defense system,” the report from the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces emphasizes.
It is noted that in February 2024, Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, and appointed the commander of the group on the eastern front of Ukraine, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, in his place.
