Pavel Durov: The number of Telegram's active users has exceeded 1 billion
The monthly audience of Telegram has exceeded 1 billion active users. This was announced by the messenger's founder Pavel Durov.
According to him, Telegram has risen to the second place among the most popular applications for information exchange in the world (after China's WeChat).
WhatsApp is in the lead ahead of Telegram, which Durov called a "cheap" and "shallow" imitation of his messenger. "For many years, they spent billions on lobbying and PR campaigns to slow us down and desperately tried to copy our innovations. They failed. Telegram grew, became profitable, and unlike our competitor, maintained its independence. We are just getting started," Durov writes.
Durov also announced that user activity is increasing. He noted that each user opens Telegram an average of 21 times a day and spends 41 minutes on it daily. According to Durov, revenue in 2024 amounted to 547 million dollars.
In April 2024, Durov stated in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson that he expects to reach 1 billion users by the end of the year. He also mentioned in December that Telegram's total revenue had exceeded 1 billion dollars over the year. According to him, the number of subscribers to Telegram Premium, a paid service that emerged in 2022, has surpassed 12 million.
