Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev made an important decision to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the order of the head of state, 2 million dollars will be allocated for Ukraine. These funds will be used to purchase modern electrical equipment produced in Azerbaijan and deliver it to the territory of Ukraine.
The decision was announced after a phone conversation between Aliyev and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on August 10. During the conversation, the two leaders discussed a number of issues, particularly condemning the airstrikes on the SOCAR oil base in Ukraine by Russia.
It was also emphasized that other Azerbaijani facilities located in Ukraine and a strategically important compressor station were also under threat. Zelensky informed Aliyev about Russia's attacks directed at Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
According to him, these actions pose a threat not only to Ukraine but to the energy security of all of Europe. During the conversation, Zelensky sincerely congratulated Azerbaijani President Aliyev on the agreements reached between Baku and Yerevan with the mediation of the United States.
For reference, on the night of August 6, Russian forces carried out an airstrike on a compressor station located in the Odessa region, which is crucial for delivering Azerbaijani gas to Europe. Just a few days before this attack, Ukraine had received Azerbaijani gas for the first time through the Trans-Balkan corridor.
On the night of August 8, Russian drones struck the SOCAR oil base in the Odessa region. While relations between Moscow and Baku are cooling, ties between Ukraine and Azerbaijan are significantly strengthening.
The cause of this tension is related to an incident that occurred in December 2024. An Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane was shot down by the Russian air defense system over the skies of Grozny.
Aliyev demanded an apology from Moscow for this incident and compensation for the families of the victims, but Russia rejected this demand. In June, the diplomatic conflict between the two countries intensified.
Several representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora were detained in connection with a murder case that occurred 20 years ago in Yekaterinburg. During the investigation, two suspects were killed.
An examination conducted by Baku confirmed that their deaths were due to severe injuries. In response, more than 10 Russian citizens suspected of drug trafficking and cybercrime were detained in Azerbaijan.
During the investigation, reports emerged that they had been beaten. Currently, Azerbaijan's assistance to Ukraine and its firm stance against Russian attacks are gaining significant attention on the international stage.
Officials emphasize that these actions are crucial not only for strengthening cooperation between the two countries but also for ensuring strategic energy security for Ukraine.
