A strong earthquake in Afghanistan killed hundreds of people
A strong earthquake that occurred on the night of August 31 in eastern Afghanistan plunged the entire country into deep sorrow. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

According to official data, at least more than 250 people died as a result of the natural disaster, and about 500 people were hospitalized with various injuries. This was reported by international media outlets, including the “Reuters” agency.

The earthquake occurred at 23:47 local time. The epicenter was located 27 kilometers northeast of Jalalabad city in Nangarhar province, with a depth of only 8 kilometers.

Because of this, the earthquake was strong and caused extensive destruction. Twenty minutes later, a second tremor with a magnitude of 4.5 occurred in the same area.

The impact was also felt in the neighboring Kunar province. Since the natural disaster happened at night, most of the population was asleep and did not fully feel the earthquake.

As a result, many people were trapped under the rubble. Especially, the complete collapse of houses made of mud and stone worsened the situation.

According to the Kunar Province Emergency Management Department, the disaster was widespread in the Nur-Gul, Soki, Vatpur, Manogi, and Chapadare areas. In these areas alone, more than 250 people died and about 500 were injured.

Although the Nangarhar Province Health Department initially reported only 15 injured people, later information was updated, revealing that dozens of people died in some villages. Officials emphasize that the number of victims may be higher than the current figures.

Currently, rescue teams continue searching for survivors under the rubble. As a result of the natural disaster, the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan is expected to worsen, and the number of victims may increase.

Thus, yesterday’s strong earthquake in Afghanistan ended the lives of hundreds of people. The public stresses the need to strengthen systematic preparedness against natural disasters in the country.
