The court trial held in the city of Tbilisi attracted wide public attention and sparked significant discussions. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Judge Nino Galustashvili delivered the verdict on Friday, September 12, against two Russian citizens — Anastasiya Zinovkina and Artem Gribul. They were sentenced to 8.5 years in prison, according to the Paper Kartuli Telegram channel and the NewsGeorgia online publication.
According to the court, the couple was found guilty of possessing a large quantity of narcotic substances. Law enforcement agencies reported that 16 grams of a synthetic substance belonging to the α-PVP type were seized from them.
However, the convicts denied the charges in court. According to them, the drugs were deliberately planted by police officers.
Zinovkina and Gribul emphasized that they are being punished because of their participation in anti-government protests in 2024. For this reason, they were detained and arrested on December 17, 2024.
During the trial, Anastasiya Zinovkina made a moving statement in her final words. Through tears, she said: “They deprived me of the opportunity to have children and start a new life.
But I want to consider the revolution in Georgia as my child,” she said. This case sparked widespread debate in Georgia.
Various opinions emerged among the public. While some supported the police accusations, others believe the convicts were punished for political reasons.
Zinovkina’s words caused heated discussions within Georgian society.
