Are strong earthquakes expected again in Asia? Serious warning from Chinese scientists
Following the catastrophic earthquake in Myanmar in March, the risk in the region is rising again

Chinese seismologists have warned that strong earthquakes may occur in the Asian region, particularly in China and its surrounding areas, in the coming years. This was reported by the South China Morning Post.

A team of experts led by Chiu Xunbin, a senior engineer at the Beijing Earthquake Administration, analyzed seismic data recorded since 1879 and identified six major active periods in the region. Based on this data, scientists emphasize that the next period of seismic activity is approaching.

The earthquake in Myanmar — a terrifying warning

It is worth noting that a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 struck Myanmar at the end of March 2025. The underground tremors were also felt in Thailand, China, and Vietnam. As a result, approximately 3,500 people lost their lives, and over 4,600 individuals were injured.

At the same time, international organizations are calling for additional assistance to address the aftermath of this disaster. The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that at least 8 million dollars are needed to restore medical services, prevent the spread of diseases, and provide life-saving assistance in Myanmar.

What are the scientists saying?

According to Chinese researchers, the recent earthquakes indicate the beginning of a new phase of seismic activity. They emphasize that there remains a high risk not only in China but throughout the Southeast Asia region.

Scientists are urging citizens to take the earthquake threat seriously. This requires not only strengthening building standards but also increasing safety awareness among the population.

The Zamin.uz editorial team calls for vigilance and caution. Natural disasters are unexpected tests, but preparing for them is in our hands.
