In the UK, 262 prisoners were wrongfully released from prisons between March 2024 and March 2025. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The Sun publication reported this based on official data from the country's prison service. According to the information, this figure has increased significantly compared to last year.
While the number of prisoners wrongfully released in 2023 was 115, this number increased by 128 percent in 2024-2025. The publication emphasized that the wrongful release cases may be related to the government's program led by Keir Starmer aimed at reducing the number of prisoners.
According to this program, prisoners could be released early if they had served at least 40 percent of their sentence. However, it was found that some prisoners convicted of crimes not covered by the program were also released.
This situation has caused significant public dissatisfaction and concern. Therefore, the UK Ministry of Justice announced the establishment of a special investigation team to examine these errors and eliminate them.
The ministry is carefully managing this process and is striving to prevent such incidents in the future.
