The Chinese government has demanded airlines not to purchase Boeing aircraft and spare parts manufactured in the USA, according to bloomberg.com. This decision was made in response to Washington imposing a 145% tariff on Chinese goods.
In turn, Beijing announced a 125% tariff on American products. As a result, the price of Boeing aircraft is skyrocketing by up to twofold. Experts say this is becoming an economically unfavorable purchase for China.
State support for airlines that have leased Boeing aircraft is being discussed. Major operators like Air China and China Southern were supposed to add Boeing 737 MAX models to their fleet, but with the tariffs coming into effect, all agreements may be halted.
Boeing has warned that this situation could seriously impact supply chains.
Will Beijing now completely switch to Airbus?
