On October 3, a ceremony was held in Luxembourg where the great Duke Henri, who had ruled the country for a quarter of a century, abdicated the throne. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In this historic event, 70-year-old Henri handed over the leadership of the state to his eldest son Guillaume. Guillaume accepted the powers in his new position for the first time and took on great responsibility.
This decision was planned in advance by Henri. He announced his intention to transfer the throne to his son last year.
Guillaume is 43 years old; he graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and studied in France and Switzerland. Additionally, he has worked in several major international companies and is an expert with global experience.
Guillaume and his wife Stéphanie de Lannoy's family are highly respected in the country. They are raising two sons aged five and two.
After the abdication ceremony, the new Grand Duke swore allegiance to the Luxembourg constitution and vowed to develop state policy. The prince's coronation ceremony was held immediately after Henri abdicated the throne.
Sixty members of the Luxembourg national parliament attended the ceremony. The new duke is scheduled to embark on a tour across the country on Saturday.
The celebration will conclude with a solemn ceremony at Notre-Dame Cathedral on Sunday, October 5. This event aims to mark the country's step into a new era and announce the new phase of Luxembourg's governance to the world.
