The executive director of Russia's "Sputnik Azerbaijan" news agency, Igor Kartavikh, has been transferred from detention to house arrest. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the "Kommersant" publication, citing a statement from Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, Kartavikh was detained in Baku on July 1.
The decision regarding his release was made on October 9 in Dushanbe, ahead of the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev. According to Ushakov, this issue was directly discussed between Russian and Azerbaijani officials.
According to Dmitry Kiselyov, head of the Russian "Segodnya" media group, Kartavikh is currently under house arrest in Baku. The Russian Foreign Ministry's press secretary, Maria Zakharova, confirmed that ministry representatives have visited him.
Meanwhile, Evgeny Belousov, editor-in-chief of "Sputnik Azerbaijan," remains in investigative detention. Following Kartavikh's release, another significant event took place.
Mamedali Agayev, former head of the Moscow Satire Theater, was also transferred from detention to house arrest. He was arrested in August on charges of embezzling 20 million rubles.
On October 9, the Tagansky Court in Moscow reviewed his case and decided to keep him under house arrest. Experts believe Kartavikh's release is an important diplomatic step amid negotiations between Moscow and Baku.
This situation is seen as the beginning of a new phase of easing relations between the two countries. Thus, positive changes in relations between Russia and Azerbaijan are expected to occur soon.
