The era of music television channels is coming to an end. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The famous MTV channel has announced that it will cease operations in Europe. From now on, it will go off-air in the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, Hungary, and several other European countries.
Local media outlets reported this news. According to the information, popular channels within the MTV network — MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live — will stop broadcasting from December 31, 2025.
Only MTV Reality, which specializes in reality shows, will continue its operations. This decision marks an important historical event for MTV.
Times have changed, and the audience is evolving as well. Nowadays, people prefer to watch music videos and concerts not on television but through digital platforms such as YouTube, Spotify, and TikTok.
For the younger generation, smartphone screens have taken precedence over traditional television. MTV first aired in the USA in 1981, launching a new music culture with the song “Video Killed The Radio Star.”
For decades, it was a major promoter of pop culture, fashion, and youth style. At one time, MTV channels were among the most popular TV channels in every household across Britain and Europe.
The development of the internet, social networks, and the widespread use of video hosting platforms have reduced MTV’s core audience. This situation has also fundamentally changed the financial model of the channels.
Currently, MTV focuses more on reality shows and streaming content. As MTV representatives emphasized, the channel’s closure does not mean the end of the brand but rather a transition to a new stage.
MTV will continue its activities in a modern format through online platforms. Thus, the era of music television channels is coming to an end.
MTV served as a symbol of youth for an entire generation, but according to the demands of the times, this symbol is moving to the internet space.
