US President Donald Trump hopes that a peace agreement will be signed between Russia and Ukraine in the coming days. He announced this on his page on the Truth social network.
“I sincerely hope that Russia and Ukraine will reach a mutual agreement within this week. After that, both countries will be able to establish extensive business with the US, which will serve their economic growth and prosperity,” Trump wrote in his post.
However, Donald Trump did not clarify what specific "agreement" he was referring to and did not provide any additional details. So far, there has been no official response from either Moscow or Kyiv regarding the US president's statement.
It should be noted that on April 17, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that if the country does not see the possibility of achieving results in peace negotiations, it may suspend its efforts in this direction in the coming days.
It is worth mentioning that a few days ago, Donald Trump suggested during a meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and other high-ranking advisors that if negotiations end unsuccessfully, the United States might withdraw from the peace talks in Ukraine. He also expressed confidence that both Russia and Ukraine are interested in ending the war.
On April 17, Bloomberg reported that during a meeting in Paris, the US offered its European allies a "strong and stable peace plan" regarding Ukraine. According to this plan, as a result of the agreement, Russia will maintain control over some territories it has already occupied in Ukraine, and additionally, if a long-term peace agreement is signed, the sanctions imposed on Russia are expected to be gradually eased.
News about a peace agreement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict remains in the spotlight of the global community.
