According to information, nine items from a valuable jewelry collection belonging to Napoleon and Empress Josephine have gone missing. French Minister of Culture Rachida Dati shared the following information about the incident on her social media page: “This morning, at the time of the Louvre Museum’s opening, a theft took place.
There are no victims in the incident. I am currently at the scene with museum staff and police officers.” The Louvre administration officially announced that the museum was temporarily closed on October 19 due to an emergency.
According to the Le Parisien publication, the thieves entered the building through a freight elevator during renovation work, breaking windows and doors to reach the Apollo Gallery. According to investigation data, the theft was carried out very quickly, in just seven minutes.
The thieves took nine valuable items including a bowl, necklace, bracelet, and tiara. Currently, museum specialists are conducting an inventory process and compiling an exact list of the missing items.
