Preparations for the summit planned to be held in Budapest between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin have been temporarily halted. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to NBC News correspondent Garrett Haake, citing a source at the White House, Washington expressed that both sides are not yet ready for negotiations. Despite the productive phone conversation between Marco Rubio and Sergey Lavrov, Trump has preferred to postpone the talks for now.
The White House also confirmed that the president is not planning to meet with Putin in the near future. A CNN source stated that the delay of the summit was caused by Russia's very maximalist position.
According to sources, Rubio and Lavrov have differing views on resolving the Ukraine conflict. Sergey Ryabkov, a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, also stated that there is currently no agreement on the exact time and place of the meeting.
Trump had proposed maintaining the status quo on the front lines in Ukraine after his meeting with Zelensky. Although this proposal was approved by Ukrainian and European leaders, Moscow considers it contrary to previous agreements between Trump and Putin.
Lavrov emphasized that Washington's urgent calls for a ceasefire are an attempt to conceal the real causes of the conflict. He stressed that history must not forget the true reasons.
For this reason, the fate of the high-level summit planned to be held in Budapest remains uncertain for now.
