A new controversy has arisen in the American political arena. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The cause of this controversy was something that seemed simple but held symbolic significance — the tie worn by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. On October 17, during the meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky, the color of the secretary's tie sparked a major debate among journalists, according to the “HuffPost” publication.
Hegseth wore a tie composed of white, blue, and red colors at the event. Although these colors are present in the American flag, the sequence of the colors on the tie closely resembled the Russian flag, which drew attention.
“HuffPost” journalist Es Vi Date sought comments from Pentagon representatives on this situation. He tried to find out whether there had been any compliments from Russia regarding Hegseth's choice of tie and whether the secretary had worn such a tie before.
However, the journalist received a sharp and insulting response from U.S. Department of Defense spokesperson Sean Parnell. He said: “Your mother bought that tie.
This is a real American tie, idiot,” he said. Then the journalist asked if Hegseth was aware of the prohibitions on using U.S. flag symbols in clothing.
Pentagon press secretary Kingsley Wilson commented on the matter. He said: “If loving the country and being proud of its symbols is considered a crime by left-leaning blogs like ‘HuffPost,’ then Secretary Hegseth is guilty.
He is a true patriot who loves his country and flag from the heart,” he said. The questions from “HuffPost” were not limited to the tie alone; they also sparked new debates with the Trump administration.
The publication asked the White House for a comment on the planned Trump-Putin meeting in Budapest. However, the response was again in the form of a joke and insult: “Your mother did that,” said White House press secretary Caroline Levitt.
This incident is being assessed in American media as a tendency to respond to political questions with personal insults. According to some analysts, the Trump administration has recently launched a “fight against leftist journalism” through a revived communication style.
At the same time, the controversy surrounding Hegseth's “patriotic tie” has further exposed the political division within the country.
