A 34-year-old Decarlos Brown in the United States is accused of intentionally killing 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Irina Zarutska. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to NBC News, the jury described his actions as a "deliberate murder." This charge increases the likelihood of the death penalty being applied to him.
Irina fled the war in Ukraine and came to the US hoping to start a new life. She learned English and found a job independently.
However, on August 22, a tragic incident occurred on public transport. Brown stabbed her three times, and Irina died at the scene.
It is known that the accused had previously been criminally liable for armed robbery and theft. After the attack, he was quickly apprehended by the police.
Irina’s relatives are demanding justice and express gratitude for the prosecutor’s firm stance. After the tragedy, the governor of North Carolina signed the "Irina Law."
According to this law, courts must carefully assess the danger level of the criminal before setting bail amounts. The law was enacted to ensure citizens' safety and prevent such incidents.
