European intelligence services are investigating a former Politico correspondent in Brussels on suspicion of espionage for Chinese interests. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to a report by the European Bureau, citing Western media, the investigation is currently in its initial stages, and there is very little information about the case. It is not yet clear whether the journalist's departure from their workplace is related to the espionage suspicion and the start of the investigation.
The Euractiv publication in Brussels stated that it knows the identity of the journalist but declined to comment. Politico has not yet provided any comments regarding this matter.
According to the information, counterintelligence officers suspect that the journalist used access to international organizations and various circles to identify potential targets for recruitment. It is also suggested that the journalist may have attempted to establish personal relationships with some institution employees, including obtaining information through sexual relations.
