
A powerful explosion occurred in a mosque in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, during Friday prayers. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The incident took place on November 7 in a mosque located within a school complex in the Kelapa Gading district. This was reported by the Reuters news agency.
According to officials, at least 50 people were injured as a result of the explosion. Some of them were hospitalized in serious condition.
The head of the city police, Asep Edi Suheriy, stated that the causes of the incident are under investigation. According to him, a total of 54 people suffered injuries of varying degrees.
The injured include those with minor injuries as well as those suffering from severe burns. Witnesses said the explosion occurred a few minutes after the Friday sermon began.
According to Budi Laksono, a mathematics teacher who was in the mosque, after the explosion the room filled with thick black smoke, people rushed outside in panic, children were crying, and some fainted from fear. Most of the injured were harmed by glass shards and shock waves from the blast.
They were initially provided medical assistance at the Kelapa Gading district clinic. Investigators are examining the causes of the incident.
Currently, several possible versions are being considered, including a short circuit in electrical wires, malfunction of electronic equipment, and the possibility of using an improvised explosive device. The police announced that suspicious items such as pneumatic weapons, firearms resembling revolvers, and remote controls were found at the scene.
All evidence has now been sent for examination. The investigation is being supervised by Indonesia's internal affairs and security agencies.
