Chinese scientists have developed a new method to identify and eliminate the causes of decreased fertility with age in women. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The news was reported by the Xinhua agency. The research was conducted by specialists from Nankai University, and the results were published in the journal "Cell Reports Medicine".
According to scientist Li Sen, ribosomal dysfunction is a significant factor in the decline of egg quality, which had not received sufficient attention previously. Studies show that after the age of 35, there is excessive activation of ribosomal genes.
As a result, protein synthesis is disrupted, errors occur during chromosome separation, and embryo development weakens. Scientists tested the drug rapamycin, which slows ribosomal translation, to stabilize this process.
Short-term therapy reduced ribosomal activity, restored protein balance, and improved egg quality. Small clinical trials also showed positive results.
After treatment, several women produced high-quality blastocysts, increasing the likelihood of a healthy pregnancy. U Syusin, a representative of Shansi Children's Hospital, evaluated this approach as an important step in treating age-related infertility.
However, extensive clinical trials are necessary to confirm the full effectiveness of the drug. This method is expected to open new opportunities for solving pregnancy problems in the future.
