Former US President Donald Trump announced that he plans to sue the BBC broadcasting company for five billion dollars in damages. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Trump, the BBC broadcast his speech in an edited form, causing public confusion. He stated in his speech: "The BBC admitted that they altered my words.
Therefore, I have to take them to court," he said. This controversy arose in October 2024, just one week before the US presidential elections.
A special program dedicated to the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot was aired on BBC's Panorama show. In this program, clips from two different speeches by Trump were combined, creating the impression among viewers that he was calling for disorder and violence.
This editing led to criticism of the BBC leadership. As a result, the company's CEO Tim Davie and head of the news division Deborah Turness resigned.
The BBC apologized for editing Trump's speech but refused to pay financial compensation. According to Trump, he does not intend to abandon holding the BBC accountable and plans to file the lawsuit in court next week.
