The official poster prepared for the FIFA 2026 World Cup was removed from social media due to criticism. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
SPORTbible reported on this matter. The poster depicted players from the 42 teams that passed the qualifying stage, with each country represented by one player.
Bruno Fernandes, the midfielder of Manchester United, was chosen to represent the Portugal national team. However, this choice upset fans of the legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo.
Following the fans' dissatisfaction, FIFA decided to remove the poster from its pages. Additionally, the poster also featured Uzbek footballer Eldor Shomurodov.
It is worth noting that Cristiano Ronaldo, currently 40 years old, continues his career at Saudi Arabia's Al-Nassr club and had earlier announced that the 2026 World Cup would be the last tournament of his career. The 2026 World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
This time, the tournament will feature 48 teams for the first time. The final match will take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
In the European qualifiers, 12 national teams will compete in the playoffs for four spots. Two more spots will be decided through intercontinental matches.
