A 57-year-old man in Italy was exposed for illegally receiving his deceased mother's pension for three years. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to CNN, in 2022, the man impersonated his mother, Graziella Dall’Oglio, who died at the age of 82, by going to a government office to obtain a new passport. He wore the woman's clothes and used makeup and a wig to try to replicate his mother's appearance.
However, the official processing the documents became suspicious of the man's behavior, gait, and voice, and contacted the police. Surveillance cameras revealed that the "deceased" was driving a car, although the woman did not have a driver's license.
The police immediately arrested the man. During the investigation, the mummified body of his mother was found in the apartment where he lived.
He had wrapped the body in special bags and stored it in a cabinet in the laundry room. The man admitted during the investigation that he used special methods to prevent the body from decomposing.
He is charged with hiding the body, deceiving the state, forging documents, and impersonating another person. The Italian police emphasize that attempts to receive pensions in the name of deceased individuals are not uncommon in the country, and delays in data exchange between registries create opportunities for fraud.
