It has been revealed that the person who shot at two National Guard soldiers in downtown Washington is 29-year-old Rahmonulla Lakanval. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The incident occurred near the White House on the eve of Thanksgiving Day. During the shooting, Lakanval was injured and arrested in that condition.
Both soldiers remain in serious condition in the hospital. It has been reported that Lakanval came to the United States in 2021 through a special relocation program for individuals who cooperated with Afghan forces.
His relatives say that he previously served in the Afghan army and recently worked at Amazon. It was also noted that he had no prior criminal record.
US President Donald Trump called the incident an "act of evil and terrorism." The presidential administration announced plans to review the screening of all Afghans who arrived in the country during Joe Biden's administration.
At the same time, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services announced that it has temporarily suspended all requests from Afghan citizens. The incident occurred while National Guard soldiers were patrolling the capital.
The police stated that the attack was carried out in an "ambush" style and that the attacker acted alone. Following the shooting, the White House increased security measures.
