Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced that a meeting with former US President Donald Trump is planned soon. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Zelenskiy stated on his social media pages that this meeting is expected to take place before the New Year. The main purpose of the meeting is to strengthen cooperation between the two countries and make decisions on pressing issues.
According to Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, a report on the results of negotiations with the American side has been presented. Diplomatic sources report that Zelenskiy may visit Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
The tentative date for the meeting is set for December 28. This was also reported by US media outlets.
Zelenskiy noted that he has previously held effective talks with representatives of Trump's team. During the negotiations, a number of proposals aimed at achieving long-term peace were discussed.
This meeting between Zelenskiy and Trump will be the Ukrainian president's fourth visit to the US. The first meeting took place in February 2025.
During the talks, a number of complex issues are expected to be discussed, including the management of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and plans to end the war. The Ukrainian side proposes joint management of the plant with the US, but Washington is considering options that involve Russia's participation as well.
Additionally, various approaches to ending the war may be discussed at the meeting. Zelenskiy proposes withdrawing troops from the front line and creating a demilitarized zone there.
Russia, on the other hand, favors maintaining its control over the Donbass region. Difficult negotiations between the parties are expected on this matter.
