The Syrian government has mobilized military forces to protect the mass cemetery located in the Dhumair desert. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This cemetery was previously used during Assad's rule to store thousands of hidden bodies. Currently, the government has opened a criminal case related to this incident and has begun investigations.
The cemetery was formerly used as a military warehouse and was vacated in 2018. Later, bodies from another cemetery in the Qutayfa area were transferred to Dhumair.
This process is called the "Land Transfer Operation." Police are currently conducting investigations, witnesses have been questioned, and land surveying is underway.
Access to this area is only possible with a special permit from the Ministry of Defense. At the same time, the Dhumair military facility has been reactivated, and guards have been deployed to strengthen security measures.
The Syrian National Commission for Missing Persons is preparing for the exhumation of mass graves. Excavations at Dhumair and other similar cemeteries are planned to begin in 2027.
The criminal investigation is ongoing, suspects from the Assad era are being identified, and appropriate measures are being taken against them.
