Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy met with US President Donald Trump in Florida on December 29. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Following the meeting, Zelenskiy gave a detailed statement. According to him, during the negotiations, the US side confirmed its readiness to provide Ukraine with long-term security guarantees.
Zelenskiy stated that all important aspects regarding security issues had been previously developed by technical and negotiation groups. It was also confirmed that these agreements would be submitted for consideration by the US Congress.
The president described this agreement as historically significant. The issue of Ukraine's post-war reconstruction was also discussed during the negotiations.
According to the plans, special opportunities will be created for US businesses to operate and invest in Ukraine. Additionally, the issue of a free trade agreement between the two countries was placed on the agenda.
Regarding security guarantees, the parties agreed on a 15-year mechanism. Zelenskiy proposed extending this period to 30 or 50 years.
In his opinion, this decision could also be historically significant for Donald Trump. Trump expressed his readiness to consider this proposal.
Important steps were also outlined on political matters. In the near future, a meeting at the level of national security advisors from the US and European countries is planned.
This meeting may take place on Ukrainian territory. Once the documents are prepared, European countries will hold extensive negotiations with Ukraine, followed by preparations for a meeting involving Trump.
Zelenskiy stated that if the process continues successfully, there is a possibility of holding negotiations with Russia in a certain format. Ukraine once again confirmed its readiness for such meetings.
He also emphasized the necessity of holding a referendum to approve the peace plan in the country. However, such a vote requires a ceasefire regime lasting at least 60 days.
According to Zelenskiy, Russia is not agreeing to this proposal and continues military pressure. The Ukrainian president described the situation as complicated and noted that he will continue efforts to achieve peace together with the international community.
