
Vladimir Saldo, the head of the Kherson region appointed by Russia, announced on the morning of January 1 that Ukrainian drones struck a cafe and hotel in the village of Khorly. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The village of Khorly has reportedly been under Russian control since 2022. According to the report, 24 people, including one child, were killed and nearly 50 people were injured as a result of the attack.
Later, his press secretary updated the number of injured to 29. Saldo estimated that a drone equipped with an incendiary device was used in this attack.
The strike caused a fire that was only extinguished by the morning. The Russian Investigative Committee described the incident as a “terrorist act” and announced that a criminal case had been opened.
At the same time, it was reported that in the city of Kherson, controlled by Ukraine, a man was killed and an 87-year-old woman was injured as a result of Russian drone attacks. This was reported by Alexander Prokudin, head of the Kherson regional military administration.
The attack occurred in the Central and Dniprovskiy districts of the city. The situation in the Kherson region remains severe.
On December 31, a 47-year-old man was killed as a result of a drone strike on the village of Novovoronsovka. On December 28, nine people were injured during an artillery strike.
On December 25, a shooting took place in the central market area of the city. The 2025 report by Human Rights Watch noted that the Russian army regularly uses drones in the Kherson region, causing harm to civilians.
The UN also assessed drone attacks as a major threat to civilian lives and mentioned Kherson region as the area most affected by such attacks. The first day of the new year began with heavy and tragic news from around Kherson.
