
A former official accused of corruption in China has been sentenced to death. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The former mayor of Haikou city was found guilty during the investigation of embezzling state funds and accepting bribes. During the investigation, the wealth found in his home astonished not only China but the entire international community.
At the former official's residence, 13.5 tons of pure gold, 23 tons of cash, as well as a collection of elite real estate and luxury cars were discovered. These assets were confiscated in favor of the state.
According to the investigation's conclusion, from 2009 to 2019, he illegally accumulated wealth by accepting bribes in exchange for securing government contracts and registering land plots. It was revealed that during this period he amassed a total wealth of 4.3 billion dollars.
The court found him guilty of abusing his official powers and embezzling state funds. This case has been recorded as one of the largest incidents in China's history of fighting corruption.
