US Policy on Venezuela: Oil or Drug Trafficking?

Although the US actions related to Venezuela are officially explained as a fight against drug trafficking, experts emphasize that other objectives lie behind this process. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to them, Washington's main focus is not on drugs, but rather on Venezuela's vast oil reserves and strengthening its influence in the region. Benjamin Smith, a professor at Warwick University and author of a book on the global history of drug trafficking, also supports this view.
He emphasizes that the US policy towards Venezuela is more connected to geopolitical and economic interests, with the fight against drug trafficking being secondary here. Additionally, the professor advises caution regarding accusations linking Nicolas Maduro to drug trafficking.
He states that such claims are often used as a tool for political pressure. According to experts' conclusions, limiting the situation around Venezuela solely to the issue of drug trafficking is incorrect.
In fact, oil resources and the desire to establish a new political order in the region stand out as the main factors here. To properly understand the events, these aspects should not be overlooked.
