18 political prisoners were released in Venezuela

18 political prisoners have been released in Venezuela, human rights organizations report. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In the morning, this number was 9. Among those released are both Venezuelan citizens and foreign nationals.
Former US President Donald Trump and a high-ranking representative of the Venezuelan government, Jorge Rodriguez, described this release as a positive step towards peace. Trump also announced that he has halted a planned second military attack against Venezuela.
These releases ended a week-long political tension in Venezuela. During this period, events included the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro, his trial in New York, Jorge Rodriguez's swearing-in, and the US announcement of plans to process and sell 50 million barrels of oil from Venezuela.
According to the Foro Penal human rights organization in Venezuela, there are a total of 811 political prisoners in the country. More than 80 of them are foreign nationals.
Among them are two US citizens and one person with permanent residence rights in the US. Among those recently released are five Spanish citizens and former Venezuelan opposition presidential candidate Enrique Marquez.
