On the evening of January 18, at least 21 people died and dozens were injured to varying degrees as a result of a collision between two high-speed trains in the Cordoba province. It is reported that the condition of some of the injured is serious.
It is known that a train belonging to the Iryo company, traveling from Malaga to Madrid, derailed and moved onto the opposite track. At that time, a Renfe Alvia train traveling from Madrid to Huelva collided with it.
Due to the force of the collision, the second train also derailed and several carriages were seriously damaged. It is said that there were a total of 400-500 people on both trains at the time of the accident.
These numbers mean that the fate of hundreds of people changed in an instant. The causes of the tragedy have not yet been officially disclosed.
Since the accident occurred on a recently repaired section, investigators are trying to determine why such an incident happened at this location. Rescue operations are still ongoing.
Rescuers are showing great courage to save people trapped under the wreckage. Because some carriages were severely hit, rescuers are facing difficulties in accurately assessing the situation there.
It has been reported that Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is personally overseeing the incident, and the royal family has expressed condolences to the relatives of the deceased. At the same time, some services on the Madrid-Andalusia route have been temporarily suspended.
This tragedy is regarded not only as numbers but as a serious event affecting human lives and destinies. According to local officials, the scene was very horrific.
Now, once the investigation results are announced, it is expected that safety measures will be reviewed and new decisions will be made to prevent such incidents in the future.
