Russia is concerned about the Iran crisis: What is Putin's position?
The ideological circles around the Kremlin are approaching the crisis in Tehran with broader concern rather than simply seeing it as "a weakening regional ally." This was reported by Zamin.uz.

They are discussing the possibility that the situation in Iran could one day affect Russia as well. President Putin's strong condemnation of the assassination attempt on Iran's Supreme Leader is also seen as part of this concern.

Political analysts on the Kun.uz website's "Geopolitics" program analyzed Russia's stance on this issue and its reasons. According to Kamoliddin Rabbimov, Putin's position on this matter is not new.

In a 2025 meeting with journalists, when asked "how would you assess it if Imam Khamenei were killed by the US or Israel?" Putin expressed that he did not want to comment on this. According to Rabbimov, in Putin's worldview, war is possible, but targeting a head of state is an unacceptable line.

From this perspective, threats against the Iranian leadership are not just a foreign policy issue for the Kremlin, but an event that raises the question "who is next tomorrow?" Alexander Dugin's warning that "if Iran falls, then Russia is next" also confirms this view.

Although Dugin does not hold an official position, he is known as a figure close to the ideological environment around the Kremlin. From the point of view of regional interests, the weakening of Iran is favorable for Israel, as Tel Aviv considers Tehran the main security threat.

On a global scale, at a time when US-China competition is intensifying, Russia and Iran are considered important partners for Beijing. Economic difficulties in Cuba and Venezuela are also taken into account in this context.

The main problem is that Russia is not capable of fully supporting Iran, but is watching the situation with unease. The war in Ukraine has limited Russia's resources, and the new geopolitical shifts represent another difficult situation for the Kremlin.

Shuhrat Rasul drew attention to another episode being discussed in Russian public circles.
