Former Prime Minister Sharma Oli arrested for suppressing protests
Amidst complex events on the global political stage, Nepal's unique and acute situation is attracting widespread attention. Zamin.uz reports on this matter.

For the first time in the country's history, former Prime Minister Sharma Oli has been arrested on charges of ruthlessly suppressing mass protest movements. This decision holds significant importance not only for the people of Nepal but also for the entire international community.

The demonstrations held in 2025, which entered history as the Generation Z protests, became one of the most powerful social movements in the country. Restrictions on social media, corruption issues, and a severe economic crisis forced the population to take to the streets.

During the unrest that peaked in September, it was reported that more than seventy people lost their lives. The most tragic news is that a large number of the victims were killed by police gunfire.

These facts have sparked significant public outcry and protests. Along with the former Prime Minister, former Interior Minister Ramesh Lekhak was also detained as part of the investigation.

Law enforcement agencies emphasize that all measures regarding the case are being carried out in accordance with legal requirements. Interestingly, just one day before these arrests, thirty-five-year-old rapper Balen Shoh was officially sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Nepal.

This event signals the beginning of a new and unconventional era in the country's politics. Police officials informed international news agencies that the arrest process began in the morning and everything is proceeding according to current legislation.

Sharma Oli has fully denied the charges against him and, through his lawyers, emphasized that the arrest is groundless. Sudan Gurung, the Interior Minister of the newly formed government, assessed the arrests as an important step on the path to justice.

He stated that no one is above the law and that this decision is not merely revenge but marks the beginning of restoring true justice. Nepal's current events indicate that the political climate in the country may become even more tense in the future.

It is not unlikely that developments in the coming days will have a serious impact not only on domestic politics but also on the stability of the entire region.
