Indonesia deletes nearly four million profiles to protect children

The Indonesian government has adopted strict measures to ensure the safety of children on the internet. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Nearly four million seven hundred thousand profiles belonging to users under the age of sixteen have been blocked in the country. Reuters reported this based on a statement by Indonesia's Minister of Communication and Digital Technology, Meutya Hafid.
The greatest impact was felt by the short-video platform TikTok. As a result of the cleanup efforts, nearly four million two hundred thousand children's accounts were deleted on TikTok.
On YouTube, nearly six hundred thousand profiles were cleared. As a total figure, four million seven hundred thousand accounts and profiles have been deleted, indicating that extensive work has been carried out in Indonesia.
Such drastic measures are not accidental. A new law came into force in Indonesia on January 1st of this year.
According to this document, all internet platforms recognized as high-risk in the country are obligated to gradually delete the accounts of children under the age of sixteen. To date, these strict rules have also affected networks such as Instagram, Facebook, X, and Roblox.
Indonesian Minister of Communication and Digital Technology Meutya Hafid emphasized that the government's goal is not merely to disconnect children from the internet, but to increase the responsibility of large digital companies. The Minister stated that the aim is not to delay a child's access to the network, but to change the corporate culture of the platforms themselves.
Such a system aimed at ensuring the safety of children in the digital world is expected to soon serve as a model for other countries. Indonesia's experience is being marked as an important step in the field of child protection on a global scale.
