A ceasefire agreement was reached between Israel and Lebanon, mediated by the United States, during the state of war. The terms of the agreement and the reactions of the parties involved
For six months, strong forces will be maintained between Israel and Lebanon.
The document was signed with the participation of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. According to the agreement, the Israeli army will partially withdraw its forces from two areas—north and south of the Litani River in southern Lebanon.
Control of these areas will be transferred to the Lebanese National Army. U.S. forces will monitor these areas to ensure that Hezbollah forces do not redeploy there.
The statements from the parties vary greatly. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israeli forces will remain in these areas until Hezbollah is fully disarmed.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun emphasized the need to protect his country's sovereignty and independence. Hezbollah leader Naim Qasim demanded the unconditional and complete withdrawal of Israeli forces.
The forces remain in place.
