Ukraine attacks Omsk oil refinery with drone
The Armed Forces of Ukraine struck the Omsk oil refinery, which is of strategic importance to Russia, according to Zamin.uz.
The company is located about 2,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. A fire broke out at the refinery following the strike, and the extent of the damage is currently being assessed.
This is reported to be the first strike on the facility. According to available information, the Omsk refinery is one of the largest gasoline producers in Russia.
Ukraine stated that the refinery had not previously been targeted by drones, making this attack notable in terms of distance and strategic significance.
The refinery has a capacity of over 21 million tons per year. Omsk NPP is among the largest oil refining companies in Russia by capacity, with an annual throughput exceeding 21 million tons.
The depth of oil processing at the plant is approximately 99 percent. The company produces a wide range of fuels, lubricants, and petrochemical products.
What products are manufactured at the plant? The Omsk refinery produces: AI-92, AI-95, and G-Drive 100 gasoline; Euro-5 diesel fuel; TS-1 and RT-grade aviation kerosene; benzene, paraxylene, and orthoxylene; motor and industrial oils; and feedstock for technical carbon production.
Ukraine emphasized that part of the fuel produced at the refinery is used to supply the Russian military. Key installations may have been damaged.
Based on preliminary data, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the ELOU-AVT-11 primary oil processing unit may have been damaged as a result of the strike. This unit has a design capacity of design capacity of 8.4 million tons.
The exact extent of the damage remains unknown. It is reported that a fire broke out at the facility after the strike.
However, the scale of the fire and its impact on the refinery’s operations are currently unclear. Russia has not yet issued any official detailed statements regarding the attack or the resulting damage.
