Russian opposition politician Boris Nadezhin was detained by police in Moscow

Well-known Russian politician Boris Nadejdin was detained on July 13 in Moscow by employees of the law enforcement agencies and taken to the police department. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This information was officially confirmed by lawyer Dmitriy Trunin, who protects the politician's interests, along with sources familiar with the situation. The reason for the politician's detention was the violation of the relevant article of the Russian Federation Code on Administrative Offenses, namely the public display of prohibited extremist symbols.
According to the investigation, this was based on an old post published by Nadejdin in his social media channel in November 2023. The message contained a link to a video hosting page, where the name of the late oppositionist Alexei Navalny was mentioned.
Currently, this link and related information have been completely removed from the politician's page. According to experts, this detention and the opened administrative case may become a serious obstacle to Nadejdin's future political activities.
Notably, just a few days before this incident, the Russian Ministry of Justice had included him in the list of foreign agents. According to current legislation, individuals with such status are prohibited from participating in elections at any level as candidates.
Moreover, the possibility of participation in elections for individuals facing administrative liability is almost zero, and the collected signatures are considered invalid. Boris Nadejdin is considered one of the veterans with extensive experience in the Russian political arena.
In previous years, he actively worked as a State Duma deputy and had also intended to put forward his candidacy in the 2024 presidential elections. Therefore, citizens in many cities of the country had publicly supported him and gathered signatures, but official authorities rejected his registration with various justifications.
The current situation is being evaluated by analysts as another step aimed at completely restricting the activities of one of the last politicians with an opposition stance in the country.
