The US presidential administration is considering expelling Canada from the 'Five Eyes' (FVEY) alliance. This was reported by the Financial Times based on its sources reported.
The proposal to "expel the northern neighbor" came from Peter Navarro, a senior trade advisor to Donald Trump. The publication wrote that Washington could apply pressure on Canada in this way. So far, the US president's response to the proposal is unclear, and the idea is under discussion at the level of aides.
For reference: 'Five Eyes' is an intelligence alliance founded in 1946, consisting of the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Member states exchange information in the fields of cybersecurity and counter-terrorism. If Canada is expelled, it will be the first historical change in the composition of this alliance.
