Bill Ford, the chairman of Ford Motor Company and the grandson of Henry Ford, spoke out against the reduction of subsidies and tax incentives for electric vehicles in the U.S., as reported by auto.mail.ru.
Speaking at a conference in Michigan, Bill Ford emphasized that if Congress reduces support for "green transportation," the battery plant planned to be built in Michigan will be at risk. It was supposed to provide jobs for 1,700 people.
“Changing policy after all the expenses have already been incurred is not fair,” said Bill Ford.
According to him, this issue is not about politics, but about justice. Ford also criticized the new policy under Trump's leadership:
“Politicians can express their opinions on whether electric vehicles are needed or not, but don’t change the rules — we have invested,” he said.
Interestingly, competitors such as General Motors, Hyundai, Toyota, and Volkswagen have also previously raised similar concerns.
Another risky situation for Ford is the political tension between the U.S. and China. The company planned to obtain a license to produce cheap lithium-ion batteries from CATL, but the company has fallen under U.S. Department of Defense sanctions
