The Senate establishes liability for odometer tampering

At the plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, a new draft law was thoroughly discussed, which provides for amendments and additions to the Code on Administrative Liability. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

This document is considered an important step towards further improving the system of administrative liability in our country, particularly in reliably protecting the rights of consumers and ensuring the interests of minors. One of the key innovations in the draft law, which has attracted everyone's attention, is aimed at curbing fraudulent practices in the automobile market.

According to the newly adopted rules, the Code on Administrative Liability is being supplemented with a new article. Henceforth, strict liability is established for cases of tampering with or replacing devices that indicate the distance traveled by a vehicle, namely odometer readings.

If the seller fails to inform the buyer about such changes, they will be held liable under the law. This norm serves to ensure transparency in the automobile market and to protect buyers from deception.

Currently, on the secondary automobile market, cases of concealing the actual mileage of vehicles occur frequently. This misleads the buyer, leading to unnecessary expenses and the purchase of technically faulty vehicles.

As emphasized by senators, the aforementioned legal changes will help eliminate unlawful practices in the market. Fairness will be established in seller-buyer relations, and the consumer's right to receive accurate and lawful information will be guaranteed by law.

Furthermore, within the framework of the law, the procedure for reducing the punishment period for persons deprived of the right to drive or operate a vehicle has been reconsidered. Now, such leniency will be applied only based on specific conditions determined by the court.

If a person has previously benefited from such leniency or commits another violation before the punishment period expires, they will not be granted early release. This is aimed at ensuring the supremacy of the law and increasing drivers' responsibility.

In conclusion, it can be said that falsifying odometer readings is no longer just a petty trick, but a serious offense that entails legal liability. The implementation of these changes will foster an environment of openness and mutual trust in the automobile trade.

Every seller must tell the truth about their goods, and the buyer must be fully informed about the condition of the property they are purchasing. Only then will there be order, blessing, and justice in the market.
