JLR leaves the premium car market

Britain's famous JLR group has decided to fundamentally change its business strategy. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
At the annual investors' meeting, the company's management announced that it would leave the mass premium car market—the "battlegrounds" where competition is extremely fierce. From now on, the manufacturer will focus its primary attention on even more expensive and exclusive SUV models.
This was reported by Autocar.co.uk. This strategic shift is directly linked to the decline seen in the company's recent financial reports.
According to data, in the financial year ending in March, JLR saw a pre-tax profit of only 200 million pounds sterling. For comparison, this figure was 2.5 billion pounds sterling during the same period last year.
Such a sharp decrease in profit forced the brand to reconsider its approach. Prioritizing quality over quantity, JLR now prefers not to chase the number of cars sold.
The company's strategy is based on directing customers toward even more expensive and high-tech versions of its off-road vehicles. This means that cheaper configurations in the Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery lineups will decrease, while luxury-level modifications will increase.
In the Uzbekistan automotive market, JLR products, particularly the Range Rover and Land Rover Defender models, are distinguished by their high prestige. The company's new strategy may also affect prices in the local market.
The brand's full transition to the luxury segment will serve to further strengthen its position in the premium class. According to experts, such a step will help JLR reduce risks.
Competing in the mass market requires significant resources and constant price wars. In the luxury segment, however, margins are much higher, and the net profit from each car sold allows the company to recover its budget faster.
At the same time, the company does not intend to stop the electrification process. Hybrid and fully electric premium SUVs are expected to take a central role among the new expensive models.
This will allow the JLR brand not only to attract wealthy customers but also to adapt to global environmental standards.
